Home Health & Home Care Services

Home Health differs from home care when it refers to skilled care provided by for-profit and non-profit agencies based on a medical plan and supervised by a health care professional. Many home health agencies are private-pay so the Ohio Department of Health doesn’t regulate them. There is neither state licensure nor registration for home health agencies in Ohio. All home health agencies certified to participate in the Medicare program must provide skilled nursing care and certain therapeutic services. Home health care can include assistance with medications, wound care and intravenous (IV) therapy, plus help with essential daily activities. Other services may include therapy and rehabilitation by registered nurses, physical therapists and occupational and speech therapists. In-home skilled nursing also is available through Medicaid under strict guidelines, and by Medicare for a limited time.

Home Care/Companion Care
Assistance for older adults with activities of daily living; eating, dressing, bathing, toileting, transferring from one place to another in the home and walking. These services can help manage the household, handle personal affairs and self-administer medications. Personal care also includes respite care.
