Dating back to early this century, researchers of the “Blue Zone Project” looked for areas in the world where residents lived longer and healthier lives. Five pockets were identified, including one in the United States: Loma Linda, California. Of course, researchers sought to determine the common denominator characteristics of these areas and then partnered with organizations such as AARP to apply these principles to Albert Lea, Minnesota. The outcome was astounding and led to future initiatives.
