The good and bad of personal sound amplification products

Despite a high prevalence of hearing loss in aging adults, a small percentage use hearing aids.  Steep prices, lack of coverage by Medicare, stigma and hassle are some barriers to getting aids.  An alternative are personal sound amplification products, or P.S.A.P.s.  They are relatively less expensive and don’t require an audiologist.  However, they are basically unregulated by the FDA.  Still, they are a potentially beneficial option.
