As brain activity decreases, wisdom may increase

Although activity in certain regions of the brain diminishes with age, research shows that the shifts that occur in brain activity may stimulate wisdom. According to psychologist Ursula Staudinger, “What doesn’t [diminish] is reasoning and cognition that is based on knowledge and experience.” While wisdom is not an absolute in older people, it occurs, and as long as the mind stays engaged and active, wisdom remains stable and only declines in one’s final years of life.
